Good restaurants in Dunsborough, at the start of the Margaret River wine region, include Piari and Co or Italian restaurant La Casina.
At nearby Yallingup, try Studio Bistro, Lamonts or for a fine dining experience, Cape Lodge is superb.
The pretty coastal hamlet of Yallingup is only 5 minutes away – nice to visit, but windy in the afternoon.
It’s a much-loved institution in the Margaret River wine region to have a long, lazy lunch at the dozens of wineries near Dunsborough, which aren’t usually open for dinner.
Close to Dunsborough, try Aravina, Palmers, Aramia, Brookland Valley and Robert Oatley. Robert Oatley is a beautiful French-style vineyard recognisable from Caves Road by its golden Lady of the Lake, known by locals as “Chick on a stick.”
Half way between Dunsborough and Margaret River town, try Vasse Felix, Cullens, Hayshed Hill’s new Rustico cafe, or the new Amelia Park restaurant on Caves Road, with its sensational chef formerly from Piari and Co. Knee Deep Winery also has a nice relaxing atmosphere looking out over the vines for lunch, as does Brookwood Estate.
You’ll find nice food just south of Margaret River at the famous Voyager Estate and at Leeuwin Estate, with its world famous concerts. James Taylor just played here to a sold out crowd.
And pretty Watershed Winery is the emerging premium winery here. It has a modern, elevated restaurant overlooking the lush green vineyard. The cellar door shop is also lovely with some wonderful artifacts to take home as a memory of a wonderful stay.
Look for the Watershed Premium Wines wine barrel in French oak while staying at Beach House Dunsborough, as a reminder of where to go.
